Very nice content idea showing your perspective on road tripping with the SIlverado in the NE. I am a SEV RST FED owner and have completed a round trip between Ellicott City (your neck of the woods) and Westerly , RI with very similar results but using only one tesla SCN site and the rest with EA and EVgo 350's. With a pre-conditioned battery, charging was smooth. Enjoy your SEV it is a great truck.
Both SOC and range is on the Main screen by selecting the full data screen… it also shows the power being charged in KW on the same screen (steering wheel screen)…leave the truck on when charging. Shut off climate…
...one thing I find on EV road trips, my efficiency tanks when driving through rain. I think it is a combo of the physics and the energy needed to run the wipers. Love seeing inside the SilvWT. Boss ride.
Good point yes the rain increases the rolling resistance. And of course, rain storms are also associated with high winds, which also reduce efficiency as well.
🤔... good video but you need to remember to pre condition at least 30 minutes out from your charging stop and it doesn't matter if its 400 or 800v chargers since it doesn't do it automatically like other EVs to max your charging speeds
Good video. You may want to consider that driving slower may actually result in better/less travel time. Because you use way more energy driving at high speeds, you end up having to charge more often and for longer. It may actually take you less time if you drive slower and charge less often.
Great point! I believe if I would have kept my speed below 70 I could have made it all the way without stopping however, my bladder does not have the same amount of range as the Silverado EV 😂 my stops were mainly to stretch my legs and of course for restroom.
Software & OTA updates are my primary concern with GM EVs. They need to demonstrate that they can regularly deliver OTAs that improve some of the usability issues you highlighted. Does it not automatically precondition the battery for DCFC? Lastly I wouldn’t say Superchargers are slightly more w/o membership. It seems to be significantly more with a 30%+ average premium for non members.
It is not true that it doesn't precondition, please get the facts straight.. Who even established this as fact??? If you select a charger destination it preconditions automatically and you can also initiate it manually.
Nice ..you do not need to charge as much as you did. Try 300+ miles of driving and stop at an EVGO, CP or EA 350 kWh charger…it charges at 350 kWh and steps to 250 making the charge stop quick… I have done several 500 mile road trips and only needed 20 mins of 350 kWh charging…. You are too used to driving lower range EVs.. you can add Waze from the play store as well and use it from the built in Nav.. bTW 430 miles highway at 70 MPH warm and 410 miles in the 30’s….
Very True. Truck has more range than my bladder 😁. With the range of the 4WT I could have possibly made it without charging at all. I might have tried that if I had level 2 charging at my hotel. I still would have needed to stop to use the restroom though....that's the only problem with such long range EVs. The range on this truck does unlock something all prior EV trucks really struggled with though and that's towing.
Agreed, me as well but a 10 min bio break is quicker than charging. We just completed a 560 mile road trip yesterday. Bar Harbor to Boston and back. Total charging time at an EVGo, shared, was 29 minutes. If I got more than 180, it would have been 15 mins…a new Honda prologue was learning how to charge…
I am looking forward to trying a Silverado or Sierra EV but not till the RST or the GMC variant come down in price. No interstate in a base model work truck. I have a AT4 with Duramax now. I would hate the work truck and that is not eh fault of the EV just the trim level.
Agree, GM does offer the Ultium promise cash $7,500 on the WT model but surprisingly they don't offer it on the 2024 RST. You would think they would offer it on the 2024 at least especially since the RST is a higher margin vehicle vs. the WT and LT models. If only the LT was offered with super cruise and the max range battery.
@@ElectrifiedOutdoors I just got a 2025 LT ev and its great. 410 mile range and 12500lb tow rating. really wish it had super cruise but the adaptive cruise combined with the lane keep makes it nice. the lane keep will steer the truck and make it stay in the lane somewhat so thats a big plus
Can I ask you to do a 80% test? Charge to 80%, drive as you do for a day or 3 and below 25%. Note the miles you drove since 80%. Top back up to 80% and calculate the miles per Kw. That is a true gauge I have an offer to buy the R1S for $91k but I don't want to trade for a Kw hog. Thanks!
80% 4WT real world, not highway (for me, my commute) is 394 miles. And to do that it needs 174 kWh into the battery…2.26 mi/kWh (no charging losses). that’s my specific commute under 55 mph, average 45 mph in good weather, above 45F. You have to decide range vs efficiency. I will take range every time…with 350 kWh charging. Highway, 65 MPH 38F, 410 miles 100%, 328 miles at 80%. Warmer, 65 MPH, 430 miles 100%.
@@RONderluck by lemon lawing it what does that mean? you get all your money back or they just give you credit on another car or just give you another silverado ev
Yeah it’s slower but most of the stops I wasn’t charging to 80%. The other chargers are hit/miss as far as working or being full. 180kw sure beats the old days when I charged my Chevy Bolt EV at 50 kw 😱.
@ Tesla chargers are 400v. The amperage would melt the cable. My EV6 maxes out at ~100kw at a Tesla 250, but 243kw at a EA 350. The Silverado can do over 300kw at a EA 350. Anyone with a fast charging EV, Ioniq 5 or 6, EV6 or 9, Porsche Taycan, Lucid Air, Silverado/Sierra, Hummer, Tesla chargers are nothing more than emergency backups.

It's the Work Truck EV not the Public version that has more options+ Big Difference! ;-(
you are correct. The WT is the most stripped down version of the Silverado EV. The LT and the RST have more features.
subscribed. Cool channel. Right up my ally. Thx for the video. I enjoyed watching.
Awesome, thank you!

Great advice! Thank you.
This is not true, if you have charger selected in navigation it will precondition
Thanks for the heads up. I have to give this a try. I typically use Waze and ABRP.
Ty for a nice video.
My pleasure!

I have received an OTA on mine. It was painless…you can Auto precondition using Nav or manually precondition from the menu….for DCFC.
@
Thanks for letting me know about your OTA. That’s good to know as well as having both auto and manual battery preconditioning.

The normal Silverado ev would show battery percentage, you have the basic work truck software which isn't exactly the same
You are correct! LT and RST show a small percentage state of charge just below the battery meter.
